Almost every tool is different from the modern version. The awl is solid, and the Phillips screwdriver is half-squared, with a nail file cut into one side. The main blade has Victoria on the tang, while the small blade has a clip-point profile. The scissors are more square, with a straight spring and an adjustable screw at the pivot. The bottle opener has a sharp edge cut into its inside curve.
The can opener has Pat on the side. Instead of a key ring, this knife has a bale on the end. The scales are made with a different, harder polymer, with a gold-colored insignia. It has a modern style double-cut wood saw (introduced about 1970), while the Pat mark ended about 1972, give or take a year. So we know fairly closely when this one was made. MODEL NOTE: When this knife was made, Victorinox made this combination of tools in both 91mm and 84mm sizes. Based on airport finds, they were about equally popular. The 84mm version is sometimes called an Artisan , although Victorinox rarely used model names back then. The Victorinox Fieldmaster knife is 91mm (3½") long, about 26mm (1") wide, and 20mm (0.8) thick. It weighs about 107.7 grams (3.8 oz), about 9 grams heavier than the current version. Bottle Opener with Screwdriver Tip. Can Opener with Screwdriver Tip. Phillips Screwdriver (rear mounted) with File.
